Description
The gold stater of Alexander the Great is one of the most emblematic coins of antiquity. Minted during his reign (336–323 BC), this coin features on the obverse the head of the goddess Minerva, wearing a crested helmet, and on the reverse the figure of Nike (Victory) standing, holding a wreath and a stylis (a flagpole). The inscription “ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ” (of Alexander) appears next to the figure of Nike.
