The “Alexander the Great – Lysimachus Tetradrachm” pendant is a jewel of rare beauty that encapsulates the essence of ancient Greek mythology. This extraordinary piece pays homage to two legendary figures of Greek history: Alexander the Great, one of the greatest military leaders in history, and his loyal general and successor, Lysimachus, ruler of Thrace.

Alexander the Great – The King of Kings

At the center of the pendant is the profile of Alexander the Great, adorned with the horns of Ammon-Ra — a reference to his divine status as the son of Zeus and Ammon-Ra. This iconography symbolized the divine power and royal destiny of Alexander, whose empire stretched from Greece to India.

Lysimachus – The Legacy of Alexander

The pendant’s design is inspired by the Lysimachus Tetradrachm, one of the most renowned coins of the Hellenistic period. The reverse of the coin often depicted Athena, the goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, seated on a throne, holding Nike (the goddess of victory) in her right hand and a spear in her left hand — symbols of strength and military success. The inscription “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ” (“of King Lysimachus”) represented the continuity of power and the legacy of Alexander the Great.

Premium Materials and Craftsmanship

The pendant is framed in an elegant bronze bezel, creating a sophisticated contrast with the brilliance of the sterling silver. Description

Description

The Lysimachus Tetradrachm is a silver coin minted by Lysimachus, one of Alexander the Great’s successors and later king of Thrace, between the end of the 4th century BC and the beginning of the 3rd century BC. This coin is particularly notable for portraying Alexander the Great in a deified form.

Description of the Coin:

Obverse:

It features the head of Alexander the Great facing right, adorned with a diadem and the horns of Ammon, symbolizing his deification and association with the Egyptian god Ammon-Ra.

Reverse:

It depicts Athena seated on a throne facing left, holding a Nike (personification of victory) in her right hand and resting her left elbow on a shield. A spear is positioned behind her. The Greek inscription “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ” (Basileōs Lysimachou) means “of King Lysimachus.” Additional symbols, such as a club or a gorytos (Scythian quiver), are often present in the field of the coin.

An authentic example of this coin is listed in the General Catalogue of Italian Cultural Heritage, which mentions a tetradrachm featuring the head of Alexander the Great with the horns of Ammon on the obverse and Athena seated with Nike in her hand and resting on a shield on the reverse.

These coins were not only used as currency but also served as propaganda tools, reinforcing the legitimacy and prestige of the rulers who issued them by associating themselves with the legacy of Alexander the Great.
