Description

The gold stater of Alexander the Great is one of the most emblematic coins of antiquity. Minted during his reign (336–323 BC), this coin features on the obverse the head of the goddess Athena, wearing a crested helmet, and on the reverse the figure of Nike (Victory) standing, holding a wreath and a stylis an ancient naval standard. The inscription “ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ” (of Alexander) appears next to the figure of Nike.
